My child is 5 yo right brained dyslexic, and after doing heavy phonics intervention myself for 9 months, my child is reading at age appropriate level. But I'm not satisfied, as I still see that decoding is all but natural. I'm interested in her developing her inherent talents, not in styfling it by unnaturally rewiring her brain, because this is what we do when we teach phonics. And Jeffrey presents some very practical ways to teach literacy harnessing their inherent visual spacial talents.Jeffrey's book presents some insight into the workings of right brain dominant, aka visual spacial, children. He presents some very practical visual approaches for teaching different subjects.

This book has important insights into how dyslexics learn, since most dyslexics are right-brained. It includes an excellent explanation of why phonics doesn't make sense to a right-brianed learner, and provides ideas for teaching in other ways. I used several ideas from this book in my teaching handbook, Dyslexia Tool Kit for Tutors and Parents: what to do when phonics isn't enough. If your child is bright and curious, but school isn't working out well for them, be sure to read this book!

I downloaded this book yesterday and spent the whole day reading reading it. I am the mom of an 8 year old boy with ADHD and as a Social Worker I work with many ADD/ ODD/ and otherwise classified children. I have know my son was different and experiencing difficulties since he was a toddler. He is so bright, funny, loving and so emotionally attuned to my moods that I tell my husband he is an empath. Out of desperation, after much deliberation, he has been on Ritalin for a year at a very low dose and this has allowed him to remain in the same grade as his twin (very left-brained) sister. But I have so much insight now and can't wait to start applying the techniques. So many of the things I have observed and intuitively knew (oh found out I am very right brain too) about him, are explained in this book. And I see him in a POSITIVE light and have the vocabulary to share all the strengths I already knew was there. Get this book!

Since this was a first read on the subject of right and left brained thinking and the differences in learning methods, I found it fascinating. The authors constructed it logically enough for the layperson to get a grip on the various methods for visualization of material for reading, math, and writing. Also included are some proven techniques for the teacher. This is not the all inclusive volume for teachers but if you're looking for an introduction to understanding an individual with ADD, I found this book very informative.

One of those "Wow" books that everyone must read. To be honest I bought it because I know that some of my children are right brained learners and I wanted strategies to help them with their education (we homeschool but any parent would benifit from this book) and I missed the small print that said it was geared towards children with ADD/ADHD. As it turns out my one child who I mainly bought the book to help doesn't have either. However, instead of returning the book, I've kept it, read it, highlighted & underlined it. I've learned so much amazing information about ADD/ADHD & I've thoroughly enjoyed the research shared on how &when the brain develops how it affects learning, behavior, etc... & so much more. It's not that I was unknowledgeable in these areas nor that all the information presented was new to me but that the facts and research are so clearly put. There was so much useful information even for someone who doesn't have a child with ADD/ADHD.This would be a great baby shower book to give to the expectant parents.

I found this book while searching for information on helping my son who clearly does not learn easily in what is considered the 'normal' way. Not only did I find Jeffrey very helpful, his voice is compassionate. He understands because he's been there - as a teacher but, perhaps more importantly, as a right brained person living in a left brained world. I believe this is a great starting point for any parent with a struggling learner.

I bought this book as a gift for a friend so I can't really review it.

This is an excellent book to help understand how left vs right brained kids learn and how to parent them differently.

She is a remarkable lady who has overcome obstacles that would have discouraged many women to give up. I have been blessed by her in many ways.

This study can easily be done without the study videos, but those are great as well!

This is a great Bible study! Never have I heard a sermon on this part of the Bible, so this study was very enlightening about our relationship with God. This is the first time I have read a book by Jennifer Rothschild. She is a great speaker (on the videos). I hope to do another of her Bible studies soon.

I liked everything about this study. It was very down-to-earth, and easy to understand. It makes you realize that we're not so different from women back in Biblical times, and have the same issues still today. Excellent teachings to learn how God's love can change women. It spawns some great self-evaluation too. Highly recommend.

Jennifer rothschild does a great job breaking down the book of Hosea. She uses humor and gentle push of encouragement to press in. I underestimated the study and I was ministered to by this study.

I have been doing a lot of Bible studies for the past 2 years. This one is by far my favorite. It really helped me to understand how much God loves us and how much He is willing to do for us.

This is an awesome study - facilitated it with over 120 ladies this past winter (2016). Everyone loved it...Jennifer is incredible. What a gift she has!

Overall, I thought this book was really good. Definitely a really quick read. I bought it as an investor in a pest control company and while there's not anything really ground breaking in terms of ideas, the author manages to consolidate all of the key tasks that need to be focused on in order to be successful. Would have like to see some average performance indicators for more industry type stuff, but still, a great read for any small service industry businessman that is wondering why their business is struggling to get over the hump.

Let me start by saying that I wish those organizations (like Dynamic Catholic or the Augustine Institute) that do $1 book give-aways at parishes would pick this book to give out. Why? In typical Scott Hahn style, The Fourth Cup is a story of the deeply Biblical roots of the Eucharist as practiced by Catholics and of the author’s own conversion story.If Catholics read this book and understood the deep connection between the Eucharist and Passover as explained by Dr. Hahn, I think parishes would be packed. If one truly understood the Eucharist as explained here, who would ever miss it?It was interesting to see how research into Passover and the fourth cup led him further into the Church. Amazingly, Dr. Hahn taught a course at Grove City College and he says that all but one of the students ended up converting to Catholicism. If I read the book correctly, he was still Protestant when he taught the course.Also interestingly, Dr. Hahn uses puns as subtitles to sections, and, in doing so, is following the examples of the Church Fathers: “In their preaching, the Fathers delighted in punning on the word ‘Passover.’” (p.173)In summary, if you want to draw closer to Christ, read this book. If you want to understand the Biblical roots of the mass, read this book.May the Gospel be ever on your mind, in your heart, and on your lips.

Over the last 25 years I have read about a dozen books by Scott Hahn, and each and every one of them I found helped my spiritual life. They have helped my understanding or God, Mary, the Church, or a specific theological point. But of all his books I have read this is one of my favourites. In fact it was so good it inspired me to add a couple of his others I have not got around to reading back towards the top of my to be read list. The description of this book is:"Well-known Catholic theologian Dr. Scott Hahn explains Christ's Paschal sacrifice on the cross as the fulfillment of the traditional fourth cup used in the celebration of Passover, drawing symbolic parallels to the Last Supper and Christ's death on Calvary. I found that while I was reading this book I did not want to put it down. I have noticed a marked difference in my participation at mass in the few weeks since I have read this book. I read a good number of books, and of those many are excellent. But this book moved me in a way that is hard to describe. It was a very moving work; it stirred my spirit and my desire to draw closer to God through the mass. Now much of the material in this book has appeared before. Hahn states that:"In 1989 at Marytown in Chicago I first gave a talk titled "The Fourth Cup." It was about some of the studies that had led to my conversion to Catholicism just three years before. I was, at the time, an assistant professor of religious studies at the College of St. Francis in Joliet, Illinois. I wasn't earning much. I had no tenure or publications. But I was a happy man because I was Catholic, and I wanted to tell the world. Now I had an opportunity."He goes on to say that he has given this talk, and talked about the Fourth Cup many times over the years, but he always gives slightly different versions of the talk. And that this book is the culmination of telling this story over the last 29 years since Hahn became Catholic, and his processing of this information for the over the 7 years before that as he made his way from being a pastor and academic who was being convinced by this specific study of the validity of the Catholic faith.It all began with an Easter Sunday sermon, and a professor and mentor paused after stating "It is finished" but did not come back to it. It began the quest for Hahn to determine what was finished. Scott was upset by this question and challenged by the pastor to answer it. And ultimately this book is that answer. And it is a question and answer that is one of the foundations of Catholic belief. At nearly the end of the book Hahn says:"This entire book is the story of my conversion. I wish I could say my conversion to Jesus was complete when I first encountered him, but that would be untrue. Conversion is never a one-time event. It's ongoing and ever-deepening. It was for Saint Peter. It was for Saint Paul."And his search for answers will inspire us and draw us deeper into the mass, and deepen our relationship with God. An incredible read! Thank you.

In it he provides a bit of autobiography, a concise overview of key points in salvation history, deeper meaning into the Last Supper and the Mass, and finally some takeaways for the reader.The autobiographical part relates to how his quest led to conversion from Protestantism to Catholicism -- what he discovered and relates in this book is what brought him into the Church. His study led him to review Passover intently which in turn had him scouring numerous books on the subject, especially the Old Testament. Eventually it even brought him to his first Mass (which changed everything)! Applying his learnings to the events of Holy Week (with a major assist from the Church Fathers) brought him to the new insight that answers the question: To what was Jesus referring when He cried His last words from the cross: "It is finished"? In the last chapter, Hahn provides for us the challenge of taking up our own crosses and appreciating the power of redemptive suffering.For one, like me, who has read much of his work, listened (in person and on tape/CD) to dozens of his talks, some repeatedly (like "The Fourth Cup"), and even was privileged to study under him, there is not much new here. But the way he puts it all together, covering so much ground quite succinctly and in such a winsome and highly readable manner, is extraordinary. He is particularly gifted in that, whether speaking or writing, he keeps you captivated. Witness that I finished the book in one sitting after receiving it late this afternoon.I highly recommend this as Lenten reading as the Passover and Last Supper are the reason for this book. Read it and then attend Mass throughout the Easter Triduum for an entirely new experience of those solemn three days before Easter. And get an extra copy for a friend or acquaintance as I did. A simple question from his pastor at a Sunday service sent the author on a quest that brought him into the fullness of truth, the Catholic Church. Maybe it will start that journey for a non-Catholic friend of yours. In any case, the reader, Catholic or otherwise, will not come away from this book without a deeper appreciation of the Lord of History.
