This is a great physiology textbook! I'm a little over 100 pages in and thought I would leave my thoughts and findings so far. The full online version of the book and resources are included for free! Sixteen video animations, multiple choice questions on each unit of the book, and 25 enhanced images where you can quickly hide the labels, quiz yourself, and then click to see the correct label are all part of the online version resources. There are no quizzes or questions at the end of each unit in the physical print edition (I think the Guyton and Hall Physiology Review 3e is geared toward this aspect). The general layout of the textbook is two columns of text per page with many figures and tables interwoven. The font of the text is clear and easy to read. The text guides you through the figures and explains them well as it is teaching the subject making for a far better learning experience than others where they just have a description underneath the figure (in this textbook there is also a very brief description under the figure but mainly is described in the main part as you are reading). There are mini bibliographies at the end of each unit allowing you to know where you might start to further dive into that topic and read some of the current research papers. Modern research and findings have been seamlessly incorporated. My mom kept asking me for birthday gift ideas and when I mention a textbook she says “well that doesn’t sound like a fun gift.” She eventually just sent me a gift card for amazon and this was my birthday present that I picked- (vitamins being the other.) I guess it could seem lame but I have to stay smart and healthy working in the ER so I can take care of the interesting people in this world. I bought the pocket guide to this text a while back at a used book store. The pocket guide refers to the text often if the reader is seeking more detail on the subject. I liked it so much I bought a textbook I don’t even need so I could read more. I am a nurse and this is a book for MED students but patho is patho. I am a firm believer that a solid understanding of the pathophysiology is necessary to truly comprehend why you’re providing the care you are for a patient. It also helps to be able to teach your patients. I started reading about alcoholism and pancreatitis and I was hooked ! Maybe now that I can take time to asorb the material (and not cramming and memorizing for an exam) I am enjoying learning a bit more. I was very happy to find this book and I will continue to refer to it. Study to save lives ! I would recommend this as well as the pocket guide. Bookshelf staple :)

This was the text we used in medical school some 28 years ago for our physiology classes. Call me a nerd, but I thoroughly enjoyed reading this beautiful book, which explains so much about the function of the human body in such an approachable and interesting manner. Although I studied it to learn critical information and to prepare for tests, I also read Guyton's just for the sheer joy of acquiring knowledge. Feeling the need to brush up on my understanding of physiology after so many years, I bought this updated version of Guyton's and started reading. The book is still as approachable and easy to follow now as it was in 1990, and the old joy of learning for learning's sake is back. I highly recommend this book for all medical professionals treating patients in every medical discipline. The information is timeless and essential, and is written to be easily understood by virtually any medical professional.

I used this book as a first year medical school student. It was great! It contains a lot of information so it is difficult to read everything during the ridiculously paced medical school curriculum. However, if you really want to understand the concepts and not just memorize facts, this book is the one to use. Costanzo is ok. But I frequently found myself reading Costanzo to try to save time, but in the end I had to come back to Guyton because it did a better job of explaining the details.

Always enjoyed this textbook and organization. It is very helpful for understanding physiology with applications.For those with limited anatomy background, have any general A&P text, such as Marieb or Salladin, for the fundamentals, and then use this text to move forward to ensure a solid understanding of the material, for success.

Very good update on a standard medical physiology textbook. Graphics have been updated compared to previous editions. I really like the "Student Consult" online service!

While everyone thinks Guyton is very lengthy and very annoying, it’s my favorite textbook. At least I understand what I’m reading/studying. I’m a slow learner and Guyton shows such motherly affection, teaching everything in a slow, understandable fashion. It uses easy words and is quite repetitive which means the concepts get pretty much carved into your minds. It’s very time consuming though.

Without an intimate knowledge of all aspects of physiology, disease mechanisms can never be fully understood and pharmacology becomes rote memorization, rather than the art of fine tuning the target system back to its normal physiologic state. Without physiology there is no medicine.Guyton's textbook is an extremely important tool in understanding physiology.

Absolutely fascinating account of what happened at Enron. This is my favorite of the books I've read on the topic. The story immediately pulled me in, as if I was reading a true crime novel (which, in a way, this is).

Author Kurt Eichenwald, one of the country's premier business journalists, presents a complex and beautifully written history of Enron, once one of America's giants in the energy industry. "Conspiracy of Fools" is a cautionary account of how a major corporation should not be run. Eichenwald takes the reader through Enron's rise as an industry superstar to the depths of the company's humiliating crash. He focuses much of his attention on the key players in the company, Ken Lay, Jeff Skilling, Andy Fastow, Jeff McMahon and Rick Causey. The author a!so details the role played by the accounting giant, Arthur Andersen, presenting narrative highlighting that firm's complicity in the bizarre schemes exercised by Enron executives.Eichenwald"s story should be required reading in any business course covering management, accounting and finance.

The jury found Ken Lay and Jeff Skilling guilty. This book tells you about the culture created in Enron that led to the company treating investors and business partners and customers as patsies to be used for Enron's greater good, even if it meant cheating or bending the rules. This book tells a lot about a corporate culture that students, employees, audit committees, and most of all leaders, should be very wary of developing or working inside.It's written with a good aherence to a time line, and in the Tom Clancy style of shifting back and forth from separate event to event, with the events slowly coming together into a crisis. It's not Clancy's submarines or airplanes or heroes or individual bravery, as here it's greed and overreaching (Fastow), an occasional flash of attempted adult supervision (Skilling) but who knows if he ever followed through or was serious, an aloof chief (Lay) (btw, I started by typing "leader" but I don't know if this was leadership he showed, thus the more neutral "chief"), and then lots of insiders and outsiders that wanted to feed on what was going on instead of blowing the whistle. A few people papered the file with cya stuff, and afterwords got some recognition, but the key is how one stands up at the time. This book should be required reading for any audit committee member, or board member, or corporate leader, because they are the oversight that sets the tone for their organization. What tone are you encouraging??Only issue it's a bit wordy, could have been cut by 1/3 or more (OK, like this review coulda been cut by 1/3 too, but at least this review isn't 679 detailed pages.)See my review on another Enron book, "The Smartest Guys in the Room" (McLean, Elkind) which book does a better job of capturing Enron and all its facilitators, and as I note in that review, both that book and this book are good to get.

Kurt tells the story of business going bad due to arrogance, unrestrained ego’s and stupidity. And how they kept it secret for so long and hurt so many investors and employees. And the fall of Arthur Anderson makes it even more amazing. A must for all business schools.

I rarely purchase non-fiction books by author but this is the third book that I've read by Kurt Eichenwald. His accounts are riveting andConspiracy of Fools, The Informant, and 500 Days are all equally enthralling.

Greed and incompetence combine to fleece shareholders - yet again. Eichenwald has provided a detailed if necessarily somewhat fictional history of ENRON and of it's genesis and demise. The fiction is the creation of dialogue and non-verbal background where no factual record exists. I found those creations to be wholly logical and believable. If anything, I'd say that he was a little too gentle with some of these characters.

As a 56 year old very successful business owner of 30 years, I always looked in awe at these 40 year old CEOs and CFOs of major publicly held corporations. How did these guys learn so much in such a short period of time? Are they actually that much smarter than I am? Apparently NOT! The only difference between us is that I could never match their levels of arrogance, greed, stupidity and total lack of ethics. Welcome to the world of big business.As tragic as the ENRON situation is, what transpired behind the scenes was so incredulous, I found myself laughing out loud. The fact that they thought they could get away with some of these schemes was astounding. The fact that they got away with them as long as they did is a tribute to the stupidity of the supporting staff around them. This book should be required reading for any college grad going into the business world.

This book reads like a novel, complete with intrigue, flawed characters and all. The facts are surreal, but the most fascinating questions deal with the very personal decisions related to greed and cultural questions of how this terribly mediocre (or flat-out incompetent) ring of fools got to openly run and ultimately destroy a criminal enterprise disguised as a reputable publicly-traded Fortune 50 enterprise!

I have recently started creating Jewelry and I needed a basic guide to learn the starting techniques I could use. I purchased this one because it has a lot of pictures and I find that helpful when studying a subject that needs hands on practice. I wasn't dissapointed.It is excellent. It guides you through all the basic techinques, the pictures are an enormous help and you can easily understand it. Following its steps you can build the basic skills needed. It even has some projects that are fun to make and give you a starting point. My 8 year old wants to make and with this book I believe she can.This book offers you much information on many levels. I find this a great choice for the beginner who wants to learn the "how to" of jewelry creation. I can even go to the web site and order kits. That really saves time for me at least. Great work can't wait to see what comes in part 2.

I was greatly disappointed that this "book" is nothing more than an advertisement for their website. They direct you to their website where they sell jewelry supplies and offer pdf files of tips to help you get started.When you try to download the files they want your name and address! The information in this "book" is very basic and can be found on the internet or at YouTube. Tweens or teens may benefit from this book if they have no experience at all.Would I purchase this book again as a gift? Absolutely not! I am not happy that I wasted 99 cents on this advertisement!

Very easy to follow instructions for beginner project. I highly recommend it to anyone who can read the instructions, look at the puctures and figure out the steps to buy this book and get started on journey of make some beautiful jewelry. I have made many of beautiful peices using their instruction and I couldn't be happier.

Whether you are new to beading or have been around awhile - this book is for you. It has some very fun patterns with interesting techniques. I also really liked the technical pages where the authors describe in detail some of the important techniques such as crimping. I would recommend this book to anyone who wanted to try out beading. They can follow the instructions in this book and have instant success making some amazing pieces right off the bat!

I found this book's designs were beautiful and easy to follow. Best introduction to jewelry making or review of the basics. The projects make up pretty fast. I wish there would be a few more demo pictures. I am looking forward to the next jewelry making projects.

I was able to hear the author speak, and he signed this book for me. He is doing an amazing job of making it his life's work to photograph as many endangered species before they become extinct. There is one kind of toad that is the last one in the world, and is much older than they normally live to be. There are only four white rhinos left, and they are surrounded by guards to try to protect them from poaches and extinction. It breaks my heart to know we are killing these magnificent creations because of humanities greed at any cost to the environment.

This book is great and the pictures are wonderful. Sartore is everywhere these days with his WWF campaign but I think it is important to know that a lot of species in America are critically endangered - this book brings light to that. I gave this as a gift and the recipient was beyond thrilled.

Rare Portraits of America's Endangered Animals has beautiful pictures. The images were captured in a way that stirred a connection to the animals. Processing how many animals are at risk is disturbingly educating. I felt a guilty sadness of how cavalier we are to seemingly inevitable losses.

This is a magnificent book and will bring hours of joy, conversation, and education. We saw the special on NatGeo about the photographer and the incredible efforts it took to present this book.

Initially got this book out of the library and then decided to buy it. The imagery is beautiful and very compelling , and somewhat heartbreaking care at all about endangered species.

Gorgeous photos and well written text. Sad stories indeed. Somehow, I feel by having this book that I too am preserving a little bit of natural history. Magnificent creatures have come and gone with too few to witness their passing or appreciate that they were here at all.

Heard Joel speak a few weeks ago. He was great speaker. But I honestly thought the idea for this book was a little hoaky. After hearing him speak about the project and finding out that this is ultimately done to get people to see what they might not even know exist, it is a pretty great thing he is doing.

Once again you have done an amazing job on this book. The stories of the animals are so touching and funny. I hope your books help the “WORLD WAKE UP” to what we’re losing. Please don’t ever stop!
