And the main character in FLOWER, Charlotte, isn't in the slightest like most of us. She loathes silly girls who lose their heads over the male species.That is, until she meets Tate (Flower's version of Rick Springfield--oops, COUGH, revealing my age here!)Seriously, though. This book is so gorgeously-written, every sentence so yummy and decadent, that the fast-paced plot and love story is simply the icing on an already scrumptious cupcake.Can't wait to see more from this VERY-talented author!!!

It gets 2 stars for being well written. However (and there will be spoilers) the story and characters are unlikeable and unrealistic. The rock star is nothing more than a tortured jerk and the girl is self-centered. Additionally her family is poor yet except for the de rigeur makeover scene it really has no impact. The drama becomes melodrama and by the 3rd or was it 4th time the guy dumps her you think you're reading the equivalent of an overlong kdrama. She's accepted into Stanford Biology but defers, spending her gap year and money on travel to Europe. I didn't know poor people had so many options. Of course she really wants to be an artist, not one of those silly STEM girls who might actually accomplish something. What's most frustrating is that this is very well written, it flowed, but the cliches and inept characterizations and complete inability to deal with social class overwhelmed the good.

Trite storyline, predictable plot, and unlikeable characters. I was so excited for this book, as I love Elizabeth Craft and her podcast, but I was sorely disappointed. I am the queen of teen romances from my high school days, and I understand this genre, but there were so many things wrong with this book, I don't know where to start. The premise of the story could have been played out in a much more original way, but it followed the typical rock star falls for regular girl. There's little plot to build the connection between the two characters, and they seem mainly driven by sexual chemistry. Lots of "I want you"/"I don't want you" which is frustrating and unfulfilling in terms of building a case for the relationship. Then there's the "Pretty Woman" scene where rich rockstar gives average girl makeover and fancy new wardrobe. Yuck. I finished the whole thing but just felt like I wasted my time. It's 2017 and time for teen romances to show more originality and inspiration for today's youth.

Flower was cute I unfortunately did not realize that is was a YA but I think it was more Y pre adult.. the book was cute and the characters where all really good and the storyline was really well written but for me it boils down to how it was very childlike I have read YA in the past and loved it but this book just wasn't that for me although I would definitely recommend it to a young reader

What a great, romantic read that keeps you guessing until the end! I love listening to Elizabeth Craft on her podcast so I thought I would give the book a try and I was not disappointed. If you like pulling for the "every woman" to come in first, this is the book for you. Now I'm wondering who will play the leads when the movie comes out? I read it straight through...you will love it.

I enjoyed the push and pull of the couple, nothing I like more than a flawed hero and/or heroine. My only complaint is that I would have loved an epilogue telling me how they are doing.

This book is a page turner! I love stories about when someone super famous recognizes how cool the girl-next-door is. The ending was a surprise to me and I was guessing what would happen until the last page!

I can't put this book down! It is juicy and addicting!

THIS BOOK DID NOT COME WITH THE CD ROM THAT IT CLAIMED TO COME WITH THE QUESTIONS ARE MOSTLY ON THE CD ROM ACCORDING TO THE BOOK BUT THIS BOOK DIDNT COME WITH IT LIKE IT SAID ON THE TITLE

I received everything that I expected, in the time I expected. Everything worked out just fine.

The science portion of this book was pretty comprehensive in "topics" however I found myself referring back to my text book many times for details, clarification and examples. I am "horrible" and "slow" with math and QR in this book did not help at all. Putting off the math section until week before the test earned me 15 on QR though I ended up making a "wild", not educated, guess in more than half of the questions (I am still proud I managed 15 :) I have taken the Kaplan course and did not find the class itself useful other than instructions in how to take the test(it is not worth $1000+)! However, their online subject tests (similar to 6-7 full length test with explanation) were pretty darn useful. I thought it prepared me well for the science section, and was surprised how easy the science section felt while taking the actual DAT (got me 22 in science avg). I havent tried the "Top-score Pro computerized DAT product, but many be you can get the same benefit for $50 for what it cost at their website. Kaplan's perceptual section threw me off in the folding dotted page section as the ones on the actual test had much smaller dots. For some reason, this really distracted me and threw me off. I am an average joe and a slow learner but was able to manage 19 academic (with 15 on QR) and 20 pat. LOL, applied many but didnt get in! Perhaps a bad year (avg of 3000 applicant per school, insane!!)? Dont lose hope guys, apply and apply again and you'll eventually get in! I think this rout will give you an opportunity to appreciate things more? Most people dont even have this opportunity! SMILE~

I took a DAT pre-test and got a 14 overall, so I knew I had a lot of work to do before taking the actual test. I picked this up and started studying during my free time for about a month and then took the test. I did pretty decent ( academic average: 19 PAT: 20 ). With that said, there are a couple of things about this book you should know.For starters, if you consider yourself a visual learner you probably shouldn't get this. The diagrams are pretty sparse and terrible when they do appear. I found this particularly painful in the biology section. Overall, I would say that the biology section of the book is pretty much worthless and really doesn't get deep enough into the subject.With that said, the general chem section is pretty well done as it cuts the crap and gives you all the formulas you really need. The O. Chem section is also pretty decent. I didn't bother to read the quantitative reasoning section so I can't comment on that.What I can tell you is that this book will build your confidence, but it comes at a price: a lot of the questions here seem a bit easier that the actual DAT. Maybe I just got unlucky with topics, but I felt as though the book left me with a false sense of accomplishment. On the practice CD-ROM I scored a 24 on the PAT...But, if you don't want to drop 1000 dollars on the kaplan course (which I have not taken and no nothing about) and your the type of person like me who doesn't need a structured environment to learn, then have at it and good luck.

The Kaplan review book is average at best. The DAT requires a greater understanding and detail than is presented in the review sections. For example, the probability section features only one of the three equations that examinees could be asked to utilize. Furthermore, I give the CD-ROM a poor rating because the reading comprhension passages can not be properly navigated. When the scroll tool is used, it jumps past several lines, making it difficult and sometimes impossible to read and/or retrieve the information needed to answer the question(s). This issue resurfaces when scrolling through any explanations with higher word counts.

I took the 2006 Kaplan DAT course and the booklet and the test are verbatim the same material. I bought this to have some more test questions and maybe learn something new from the 2008 edition. You might as well find a 2006 edition and save yourself some money.

This book is absolutely HORRIBLE. Everything was just WAY too easy. The biology and chemistry portions consist of one-liners that barely scratch the surface of a topic. The spatial aptitude review problems are way too easy to even compare to anything you would see on the actual DAT. Plus, there aren't alot of them to practice on. I have never felt more "scammed" in the purchase of a book. I can't believe that such a well respected company like Kaplan would dare publish a test aid that was so watered-down.

On the 50th anniversary of the independence and partition of India, Weller, an American poet, novelist, and journalist (e.g., The Garden of the Peacocks, LJ 9/1/96) has written a richly anecdotal account of his journey along the subcontinent's most historic highway, the Grand Trunk Road, for centuries India's main artery, running from Calcutta to the Khyber Pass. The Grand Trunk has been the traditional route of invaders, as well as a conduit for new ideas and faiths. On a previous visit, Weller was stirred both by India's beauty and by his inability to comprehend the experience. So he returned and traveled the 1600-mile length of the Grand Trunk, hoping to make at least partial sense of his earlier impressions. While the title is somewhat of a misnomer--since much of this ancient road cutting across India and Pakistan is too infested by bandits to travel after dark--make no mistake about the courage and intelligence behind this wryly observant travelogue. ``From what I'd witnessed, the future for most Indians looked like hell,'' writes novelist and travel writer Weller (The Garden of the Peacocks, 1996), and while this bleak prediction resonates throughout his account, one is equally impressed that India's explosive mixture of cultures and religions has not blown the lid off the world's largest democracy. Along this road, cut by conquerors from before Alexander, lie the birthplace of Buddhism, Jainism, and Hinduism, ornate but crumbling tombs--including the Taj Mahal (``that Moby Dick of architecture'')--as well as the sites of great pilgrimages and human slaughter. Traveling this frequently crumbling artery, his hired drivers dodging careening trucks, Weller alights in the sacred Hindu city of Benares astride the Ganges, whose ``stench is encyclopedic and hypnotic'' and into whose waters are commited some 40,000 cremated bodies yearly. Up the road, Kanpur is the site of the 1857 massacre of 1,000 British men, women, and children that led Queen Victoria to formally annex India. Weller traces the paths of Kipling, perhaps the only writer of the time to look beneficently on the Indians during the Raj. Tireless, aside from a bronchial disorder caused by the poisonous air of New Delhi, Weller proceeds to the Punjab, home to the Sikhs, and passes into Pakistan, which, while lacking the liberties and the cultural freedom of its neighbor, is generally cleaner, with far fewer beggars and homeless people. This was a joyful read... entertaining as well as informative.I enjoyed his sense of humor and descriptions which brought back memories of the hardships & fun of travel while trying to make some meaning of it all.This is a book I'd take to India and Pakistan while travelling or read it after you return. You'll enjoy! I'll read again.

Travelling along the GT Road is an expirience that one never forgets.The author gives an historical perspective of the points along the GT Road. He starts out in Calcutta, the city built by the Raj. Along the way he finds the foundations of the Jain and Buddhist religions. Weller writes about thses religions in an objective manner and gives a clear concise history of the religions along with their beliefs. Between these highlights he meets present day Indians. What he puts into words is what I thought but could not expess myself, both humorously and insightfully. I had lived in India for two years while serving in the Peace Corps. I felt the same frustrations he did in communicating and dealing with the bureaucracy.This is an excellent book for one intending to travel through the subcontinent or has spent some time there.

Reading this book was a great way to take a journey from home. Weller makes great observations about everyday encounters while en route through Northern India. From truck drivers to border guards to off the beaten track historic sites, Weller informs and entertains. I was suprised that the book educates as it entertains. Weller explains various history and religon in a manner that is never boring.

A. Weller is a superb writer, I learned more about India in 10 pages than I could have in a year of school. Although the names, and dates can be eye crossing after awhile, it only showed me that mr. Weller did a ton of research, and cut no corners' in writing this book. From keen observations interspersed with humerous encounters with strangers' and beauracratic red tape, I applaud mr. Weller for writting a book the he could be proud of first, and not an "India for dummies". Rock on Tony!!

This book is used as a text in my introductory class on architecture at a university. Although the book is above an introductory level it is the most compelling book on the building culture that I know and students, or readers, will take away an enlightened and comprehensive view of architecture and the culture surrounding it. The author provides a thoroughly researched and historically based account of ideas, precedents and challenges that shaped building cultures and challenges that face the contemporary contemporary building culture as well.

Excellent book. A must for planners.

This book is absolutely vital, should be a 101 sort of book for every person involved in construction, and certainly part of every architecture school curriculum. As an architect, I am consistently bombarded with images of flash amazing buildings and projects, but as a person, I see the world is composed of perhaps 2%, if that, of such things. The great depth and breadth of architecture is forged in a manner that has very little to do with Detail or Dwell or Architectural Record (or Architizer these days). This book fills in that 98% and why things are as they are, why great built environments come from a shared base of knowledge and a healthy 'culture of building', rather than particularly potent designers noted in magazines and art history texts that we tend to fixate upon in the same way that celebrity dominates most fields of human endeavor. (Wow, such a run-on sentence, good thing I am not an author!) Highly recommended, one of my favorite books concerning my profession.

Overall a great discussion of how buildings affect their surroundings and make an impact on culture and how if we consider the culture of the place before building something we can achieve it more successfully involving communities and local materials, reducing ecological footprint and costs.Great for designers and architects concerned with using history to improve architecture and sharing knowledge

For years, I have been waiting for an honest discussion about the interface between development, design, construction and history. The Culture of Building helps to answer some of those nagging questions of why the built world of America looks the way that it does. Davis skillfully compares the evolution and habits of several building cultures to help illuminate our own. It is an important book for my education as an architect.

An excellent introduction to why we build the way we do. Davis explains the role of conflicting forces and institutions in shaping the buildings we build. He recommends improvements which our culture and architects needs to make in order to build healthy communities.
