I'm not sure why I deluded myself into thinking that one of Cidney Swanson's book would be a slower read that I could pick up and put down when I had a free moment and that I could actually slowly savor. Nope- started it yesterday and read it with in 24 hours. Cidney is a master at weaving stories with in depth characters that suck you into their lives and story. This book does not disappoint in the complexity of the story with twists and turns and events that keep you engaged. The only disappointment is that she mentioned that this would be a stand alone book- what the heck! This needs to at least be a triology!
Once again, Cidney Swanson pulled me in and delivered a good story, one I didn't like to put down for the night. Cidney knows how to write stories that are believable. The characters and plot are always well developed.As a young adult, I think I would have loved this even more. The romance is not the most important aspect of the story. Of course, it is there. They are teens. But this story goes deeper. One guy thinks everyone should worship him. When our main character refuses all hell breaks out and payback is required. The reader will feel the need and satisfaction of said payback.I want to say more but I'm afraid I will end up slipping serious spoilers.If you get the chance pick up any of Cidney Swanson's work and you will be on adventures you cannot believe. Of course, my favorite still remains the Saving Mars series. All others are fun, too.
I love the way Cidney writes the teenage point of view. The emotions, the logic (or lack), the frustration... Reading this, I was right there with Claire, uncomfortably a teen again.The story starts on Claire's first day of junior year at Lithia Prep, a private boarding school. I was sucked in to the story easily, and was along for the ride as Claire tries to outmaneuver Sly and get back her Airstream. I ended up reading well past my bedtime to finish it so that I could experience the promised payback.
As always, Ms. Swanson has written a great story. This is the first book she’s published, written in the first person. It’s not my favorite style, but she does such a great job with this book, it really works well in this case. This is another outstanding book by Ms. Swanson.
I loved this book. I started it when it came out and I read during every available minute (I’m a mom and a daycare provider so there aren’t many minutes). There were moments where I wanted to cry for Claire and other where I wanted to tell her she was being stupid. Definitely worth the read.
I love all of Cidney Swanson’s books and Payback Society was no exception! She is an amazing writer.
DNF at 18%. Here is the story, as far as I can figure. There is an orphaned girl who wants to finish school. Nothing ever goes well for this girl, Claire. She keeps saying she should be attracted to the generic Irish guy. Normal Claire would. Oh, she sings? Let's not hear her do that. Wait, there's a brother! He drinks. No, he doesn't drink; he heads the local temperance society. There's the villain! He tricked them out of their mobile home. But they did get a Staubach card, which is maybe valuable. And so on. Maybe, possibly, it gets better. Maybe, possibly, it starts to go somewhere other than ruining the already well-ruined life of Claire. I didn't see any type of point in reading more.
totally new to Cidney's writing ... i totally was pulled into this read by that book cover ... i am going to try to not keep saying totally ... why that happens sometimes in a book review ... i have no clue? anywho ... great characters, made for the YA folks ... i enjoy that genre often ... well written. will read more from Cidney soon enough!! quick read for me.
