Slave is Cheryl Brooks first book in her The Cat Star Chronicles series. I actually bought this book back in 2010...and now it is 2014...wow how time flies. Anyway, since then I have read this book at least five times. It has to be one of my all time favorite sci-fi romance books. Each book in Cheryl's Cat Star Chronicles series can be read as a stand alone book but the series does feature recurring characters. After I bought Slave, I bought/read the next three out of order with no problems understanding the story line or the background.In Slave, Jacinth "Jack" is a space traveler who is trading her way across the galaxy to find her sister who was kidnapped by aliens years before. Her latest clue takes her to a planet ruled by men so in order to land on that planet she has to find a man willing to pose as her "master." Jacinth rescues Cat, an alien species in the brink of extinction. Together they go on a wild ride of action, adventure, intrigue, and romance. Highly recommend this book and this series!!!
The story is wonderful. its about a woman who is searching for her sister. She finds out her sister was sold to a planet that requires her to have to have a male pose as her owner. So she goes and buys a slave asking him to pose as her master. But can she rely on him when he tells her that he will escape the first chance he gets. She handles it very well. This book has many twists and turns. Once on the planet women being slaves and the men being masters is not all it seems. Its a great twist. But I will definitely be buying the next book in the series. It has adventure love and the ending definitely made me cry but it a happy ending
while obviously in some ways it’s a lot like the first book, this one was a bit more romantic feeling than Slave was… once again Leo is a slave, but he’s been beaten so badly that he has to be taken to the local witch, Tisana, for healing… she has been waiting for the one to come along… the one destined by the gods to father the only child she’s allowed to have… of course with Leo being left with her for a month she begins to fall for him as she gets to know him… but fights it because she knows he’s a slave and she can never have him… but it’s more than him just being a slave that worries her… but when Leo’s owner comes for more help because his children have been kidnapped Tisana see’s it as her chance to possibly get Leo from him… and so it goes… it’s got a lot of action and a few heart felt moments… the plots a bit see through but it’s a good one… I think it’s interesting how what appears as magic is just human and alien DNA mix that turned out interesting… that is perhaps what makes this series so interesting… Brooks does a good job of adding a flair of discovery with these alien civilizations that you get to learn about in different worlds… and humans adapting these places… in the end if you liked the first one you’ll definitely like this one…
Where to start.This book I picked up as a JOKE, in middle school.A fluke, just a by chance. I grabbed the first book I walked by as a joke in Middle School.Read the first page. Could not put it down.This book, right here started my love affair with books.Maybe not for everyone. But the mix of romance with adventure coupled with future syfy, mind blowing.In fact. This book is what guides my very standards for all other reading material to this very day.Looking back, this book set the standard for every book I've read from fairy tales to quantum mechanics.
Warrior is Cheryl Brooks' second book in her Cat Star Chronicles series. Each book can be read as a stand alone book but Jack and Cat do make appearances in this book (which I absolutely loved).In Warrior, Leo, a beaten slave on the brink of death is brought to Tisana, a healer (and a witch). She has one month to heal Leo. He seduces her in order to escape but he finds out it isn't easy to escape and his life becomes entangled with Tisana's. Besides Tisana and Leo's romance, there are a couple of interesting sub-plots. And of course appearances by Jack and Cat. Another great book in the Cat Star Chronicles. Highly recommend!
I really enjoyed the book over all, I found it a bit short, considering how much story potential there really was. I did find that I really enjoyed "Cat's" character very much, but would have liked his character to develop a lot more than it had. I also enjoyed the fun plot twists here and there, it's not a very serious story, so if you take it as a light read then you won't be disappointed. I found the steamy/sexual aspect just fine, there was potential for so much more, but I'll leave it at "just fine". - There were moments in this book that really could have catered to the D/s subculture a little bit more, but the author seemed to have chosen to tread very lightly and not delve to far into it, which is unfortunate but also understandable. (Perhaps it lets the story have a broader reader base?) To conclude (TL-DR) The story was good but could have been better; it was a quick read with fun characters that should have been developed more.
