Slave is Cheryl Brooks first book in her The Cat Star Chronicles series. I actually bought this book back in 2010...and now it is 2014...wow how time flies. Anyway, since then I have read this book at least five times. It has to be one of my all time favorite sci-fi romance books. Each book in Cheryl's Cat Star Chronicles series can be read as a stand alone book but the series does feature recurring characters. After I bought Slave, I bought/read the next three out of order with no problems understanding the story line or the background.In Slave, Jacinth "Jack" is a space traveler who is trading her way across the galaxy to find her sister who was kidnapped by aliens years before. Her latest clue takes her to a planet ruled by men so in order to land on that planet she has to find a man willing to pose as her "master." Jacinth rescues Cat, an alien species in the brink of extinction. Together they go on a wild ride of action, adventure, intrigue, and romance. Highly recommend this book and this series!!!

The story is wonderful. its about a woman who is searching for her sister. She finds out her sister was sold to a planet that requires her to have to have a male pose as her owner. So she goes and buys a slave asking him to pose as her master. But can she rely on him when he tells her that he will escape the first chance he gets. She handles it very well. This book has many twists and turns. Once on the planet women being slaves and the men being masters is not all it seems. Its a great twist. But I will definitely be buying the next book in the series. It has adventure love and the ending definitely made me cry but it a happy ending

while obviously in some ways it’s a lot like the first book, this one was a bit more romantic feeling than Slave was… once again Leo is a slave, but he’s been beaten so badly that he has to be taken to the local witch, Tisana, for healing… she has been waiting for the one to come along… the one destined by the gods to father the only child she’s allowed to have… of course with Leo being left with her for a month she begins to fall for him as she gets to know him… but fights it because she knows he’s a slave and she can never have him… but it’s more than him just being a slave that worries her… but when Leo’s owner comes for more help because his children have been kidnapped Tisana see’s it as her chance to possibly get Leo from him… and so it goes… it’s got a lot of action and a few heart felt moments… the plots a bit see through but it’s a good one… I think it’s interesting how what appears as magic is just human and alien DNA mix that turned out interesting… that is perhaps what makes this series so interesting… Brooks does a good job of adding a flair of discovery with these alien civilizations that you get to learn about in different worlds… and humans adapting these places… in the end if you liked the first one you’ll definitely like this one…

Where to start.This book I picked up as a JOKE, in middle school.A fluke, just a by chance. I grabbed the first book I walked by as a joke in Middle School.Read the first page. Could not put it down.This book, right here started my love affair with books.Maybe not for everyone. But the mix of romance with adventure coupled with future syfy, mind blowing.In fact. This book is what guides my very standards for all other reading material to this very day.Looking back, this book set the standard for every book I've read from fairy tales to quantum mechanics.

Warrior is Cheryl Brooks' second book in her Cat Star Chronicles series. Each book can be read as a stand alone book but Jack and Cat do make appearances in this book (which I absolutely loved).In Warrior, Leo, a beaten slave on the brink of death is brought to Tisana, a healer (and a witch). She has one month to heal Leo. He seduces her in order to escape but he finds out it isn't easy to escape and his life becomes entangled with Tisana's. Besides Tisana and Leo's romance, there are a couple of interesting sub-plots. And of course appearances by Jack and Cat. Another great book in the Cat Star Chronicles. Highly recommend!

I really enjoyed the book over all, I found it a bit short, considering how much story potential there really was. I did find that I really enjoyed "Cat's" character very much, but would have liked his character to develop a lot more than it had. I also enjoyed the fun plot twists here and there, it's not a very serious story, so if you take it as a light read then you won't be disappointed. I found the steamy/sexual aspect just fine, there was potential for so much more, but I'll leave it at "just fine". - There were moments in this book that really could have catered to the D/s subculture a little bit more, but the author seemed to have chosen to tread very lightly and not delve to far into it, which is unfortunate but also understandable. (Perhaps it lets the story have a broader reader base?) To conclude (TL-DR) The story was good but could have been better; it was a quick read with fun characters that should have been developed more.

I'd give this a 3.5/5, but it's incredibly well-known and well-reviewed already so I'll keep this one short. This is a very sweet, fairy tale inspired piece of shortish fiction set in the town of Wall and in Faerie. In Wall there is, well, a Wall that divides the regular world from Faerie and there's a gap in the wall here that is usually guarded. Rarely there is a market at the gap in the Wall with magical items and the townspeople mingle slightly with the inhabitants of Faerie and this fairy tale type story of seeking a falling star who turns out to be a girl, at least in Faerie, ensues.I'll just note that I "read" this by listening to it in audiobook form. The audio book for this, at least the version I listened to, is read by Neil Gaiman, the author of the book. He's an excellent narrator and it's nice to hear the book how the author envisioned it.

I have read several of Neil Gaiman's novels and I think I enjoy this book and Neverwhere the most.In every review I have made of his novels I comment on the amazing worlds that he is able to vividly birth with his writing. Nowhere, perhaps with American Gods as the only exception, is this more apparent than in Stardust.The fantastical creatures and events that are depicted in this book, are truly a pleasure to behold. The way the story is narrated in particular, makes the reader feel as if events are being guided by some higher power like fate, though it's obviously the author, and this lends itself greatly to the classical fantasy feel of the book.Its also interesting to note that this struck me as being one of the lighter fantasy worlds that Gaiman has crafted. I quite enjoyed this when juxtaposed to the London Underground of Neverwhere.I greatly enjoyed this book and its call back to the classic fairy tales of days past. I can't help but wish there was more.

I loved the movie so much that i bought this book and found that it is a much more adult fairy tale than the film. A lot was changed to adapt the book to the screen, but the overall tone was very similar. There was more sex and more blood and guts, but it was fun to read and I am glad I bought it.

I really liked this book. I guess I was ruined a bit for Neil Gaiman since I read The Ocean at the End of the Lane before any other of his works. I think about that story all the time. It still resonates with me months after I read it. This story feels similar to me. Tristan will be with me for a long time. I also agree with Neil Gain an on the power of fairy tales or myths or whatever you want to call them. A lot of them have been sanitized over the years from the original stories. Original issue fairy tales were much more grim to make a point.I do not like everything Neil Gaiman writes but the stories I do like are so profound and moving that they stick with me for quite a while. Stardust is one of those.

Magnificent story by author AND magnificent story teller, Neil Gaiman. I honestly have never fallen in love with a story like this until now. I am over the moon about it (so to speak), It is read by the author and that is a treat for the listening audience as he is delivering it in the way it was meant to be.I have listened to this in a car with others, and on my own now quite a few times because there is so much detail in the story-telling and it is pleasant to hear.I had seen the movie Stardust, related to this story it is, but never had a real interest in the movie because (I know now) of how it was portrayed. Although it has helped me visualize some scenes in the audio.Best ever story...well, what can I say...other than...this story I highly recommend for anyone with an interest in fantasy and faerie stories...it is ONEGOODSTORY!

After seeing the movie when it first came out and then buying it when it came out on DVD/BluRay and found out it was a book first, I had to get it. I wanted it in Hard Back as I am huge reader and have a large library and prefer to have them in Hardback form as they last longer. The book did not disappoint. The movie was excellent and the book is even better and am super happy w/ it.I have read several book by Neil Gaiman and this is by far one of the best if not the Best Novel he has ever written. Such a great story and for those romantics out there you will really love this book, as it shows that anyone can find love in even the most remote of places and really teach what love is, etc. Enjoy!

I love this book so much in fact that I own it in several different formats and have read and/or listened to it in all. I first got the audiobook, but sometimes you miss things while listening and I was curious have some things were spelled, so I got the kindle version as well. Then I wanted it on the bookshelf both for myself and in the hopes that one of my children will get curious and pull it down when the time is right. I highly recommend this book for anyone who needs a little magic and sparkle in their life.

Obviously it's difficult not to compare a book with the movie. There are some major differences, some good and some bad. The actual story is classic and unique, most certainly an excellent read. My biggest issue however is the lack of character development with our female lead and the fact that there is absolutely no chemistry between the two. It's a fairly straightforward story. Boy goes on journey, becomes a man, and of course he gets the girl in the end.

It was some help but after working with the worms for a while - didn't get the book for 3-4 weeks after the worms came, there are things that I learned from the worms that were not in the book, that I wished was in the book.A line drawing of worm anatomy would have been useful. Harvesting the worm castings is tricky and I could have used some suggestions on how to minimize the trauma to the worms - these worms are a lot more fragile than our husky native earthworms.The author should have covered the concern by environmentalists in regard to this non-native species causing havoc with our native fauna if people get tired of them and throw them out in the forest, roadside, or in their garden/compost heap. Research is showing a negative impact on native species of worms and plants.

I've been looking for ways to increase the compost production for my backyard vegetable garden. This is it! I'm making a worm farm. I had always thought that worm composting was complicated, but after reading this book, I see that it really isn't. The author has done an excellent job explaining every step from setting up your worm bin to harvesting the compost. He gives many tips on how to keep your worms alive and happy, how to keep out ants and fruit flies, and how to create the optimum worm composting environment in your bin.I plan to set up a worm composting bin and get my child involved in the feeding and care of the worms. What a great way to learn about organic gardening!This book is well-written, to-the-point, and covers the topic thoroughly. I chuckled a few times, too. Highly recommended!

I really enjoyed this little book - I've always wanted to try worm composting but couldn't determine how to do it and succeed - I seemed to always be missing some key component. This book lays out what to do step by step, in an easy to understand fashion. The cohesiveness is what makes it far superior to anything I've found by googling - this book takes you from start to finish. I really want to start a worm farm now, even though the growing season is over and it's getting cold out. (Yes, there are tips for an indoor worm farm. The question is, am I brave enough? Especially with overly curious children and a small amount of space.)

Simple straight-forward instruction on vermicomposting. He explains how to set up a simple starter bin; how and what to feed (and what not to feed); temperature, pH, and moisture levels needed; the basics of worm reproduction; how to harvest castings/compost and "tea"; some tips on efficiency and compost use. I'm going all-out this year and getting chicks for eggs and meat, and planting an organic, non-GMO, heirloom garden. We've had a 2-bin compost heap running for the last 2-3 years, and I think this will be a great way for me to keep some going for starting and transplanting seedlings - too bad I didn't read this a few weeks ago when I got it, otherwise I'd have some ready for my seedlings that I have to start this week!

It contains none of the above. It just repeats the same general information on different pages. Very disappointed & I still don't have the info I need to do this, & have to look elsewhere.

Simply put, l bought this book by Frank Randall and Worm Farming by Brian Grant. This book cost about half as much as Mr. Grant's book but is incomparatively better.

This book gives a great introduction to worms and worm farming with an emphasis on the composting aspect. Despite the limited pages they are filled with a lot of useful information, the book is a quick easy read that anyone interested in worms or worm farming is sure to benefit from. I wish the book went a little bit deeper with worm bin designs and perhaps add some illustrations, I believe those elements would have made the book a 5 out of 5.

I am giving this book five stars because the two recipes (Hamilton Buns and Pane Bianco) I made came out very good, and I like Jim Lahey from what I see and hear in interviews; but I do want to share a few points for folks to consider. First, if you are looking for a bread baking book, this isn't really it. There are about 15 bread recipes and then pizza, sweets and some food recipes. Also, at least as far as the bread recipes go, this book is not for a new baker. One needs to either have a starter, or be willing to make or buy one. Almost every recipe requires either a dutch oven or a pullman pan. Also, I only made two recipes; but one of them is missing information in the instructions. Specifically, the Pane Bianco instructions did not say when to add the salt (based on experience, I added with the flour in the initial mix).But again, if one is a relatively experienced baker, or is interested in the other recipes, appreciates a pretty and nice to read cookbook, this may be worth the purchase since the recipes did yield great results.

Very rarely does a cookbook make you feel invincible, like you're a seasoned chef immune to mistakes. I've also never written an Amazon review before, but this pushed me over the edge. I started baking with sourdough just two months ago and a friend just casually lent this to me. I started with a couple of the bread recipes, cookies, the panettone. Literally every single one of the 10+ recipes I've tried has turned out exceptionally delicious and I promise I'm traditionally not an amazing cook. I'd been searching high and low on the internet for directions for keeping a stiff sourdough starter (biga, italian-style) instead of a levain (high-hydration, french style) and was really stoked about the low-maintenance recipe here. It's great. (When I do want to try a recipe that calls for levain (in a different cookbook) I just take a little bit of my biga and make it levain-style the night before and use all of it for that recipe.) But even the recipes in this book that don't have anything to do with sourdough are really wonderful. I read in a more critical review that his starter directions aren't thorough enough if you're beginning from scratch and I can sorta see that. Having already gone through the work of growing my starter, all of his info was useful to me. Also, I promise I don't work for Jim Lahey or his publisher, this book's just got me dreaming of starting my own bakery.

This new bread cookbook delivers more than I expected. Now starter or "Biga" is perking away in a glass jar — so simple 1/2 cup water, plus 1/3 cup flour. I love that the author/chef says to just use regular all purpose flour that can be purchased at the supermarket, no need for any special fancy flours. Jim Lahey was the creator of the no-knead method of bread baking which started a huge following a few years ago. Now he shares many of his bakery tips on how to craft bread at home. He lists basic equipment, has a baker's reference, simple instructions with photographs of how to make the stater. He gives the reader/cook recipes for little rolls, hamburger buns, golden flax bread, pizza dough, Tuscan bead, Pugliese-style bread, sesame seed bread, simple no-knead white sourdough,whole wheat sourdough, seed and grain bread, Hamitton buns, pita bread, naturally leavened brioche, [just half-way through the book. There is a chapter on desserts, breakfasts, slow-cooking and roasting, [how to cook the perfect beef brisket braised in black tea] sandwiches, salads, and condiments. Resources are listed for a few of the specialty items, and lastly, an index. This is a must-have book for the bread bakers and chefs in homes, culinary schools, and catering services.

I love this bread book. While I’m a fairly experienced bread baker, I found this book to extremely helpful in making hi hydration breads. The photographs are very helpful. I’m using the recipes in this book, quite frequently. In fact, I made my Thanksgiving dressing using bread made with the Pane di Latte (milk bread) recipe and was astounded when two of my grandson’s college age friends wanted to know what kind of bread was in the dressing. And they were very disappointed when they discovered they couldn’t buy it anywhere.

the 4th edition game system can be almost overwhelming for a novice gamer. If you are an experienced gamer though or have played other versions of Shadowrun, then this book will absolutely be helpful to you as a reference and learning tool. The 20th Anniversary edition is better than the "regular" 4th edition core book IMO (I have both). It is much better laid out and has extra material inside. I'm not sure if they all do, but mine even came with a ribbon stitched in to serve as a bookmark. Beautiful pictures. I wish they would have paid as much attention to detail with the 5th edition book (spoiler alert: they didn't). But if you are set on playing 4th edition or buying it for nostalgic purposes, then this is the one you want.

I placed my order for this book yesterday and have not received it as of yet. However, I have read this book and played this game before. I have also played the previous 3rd edition of Shadowrun before and I'm familiar with the regular 4th edition book. Just to be clear, I do know what I'm talking about even though I don't have my own copy yet. Moving on...This is the best edition of Shadowrun anyone can own and play. The mechanics are written clearly which is good when playing a crunchy game like Shadowrun. I know Shadowrun has been regarded as a game that everyone loves the setting but hates the system but here I don't see that being a problem anymore. Even though this shares the same newer streamlined rules that 4th edition had. The way it's written and organized in this books is much clearer then that one and it also sets the mood better. You read this book and see all the pictures and you think to yourself, wow I really wanna play this. Which is what a RPG rulebook is supposed to do. When I go back to the previous editions I feel like I'm reading a tech manual with a few illustrations here and there.Now, this is still a crunchy system, though it's not complicated. It's got about as much crunch as the D20 system and most RPG gamers grasped that really quick. It's about an average difficulty so don't be afraid to try it. Most importantly, once you start playing Shadowrun it's a lot of fun and never gets old, even after months of play. I really love Shadowrun and I know many others will too. The only way this book could be better is if it came with a couple dozen d6s to get gamers started.

For anyone who played the Original few versions of Shadowrun. This version breaths new life into, most of the changes are for the better.First: The book is Hardback and well bound. I haven't had a single page come loose, which was a real problem with the older versions.Second: They updated everything so that modern tech no longer outpaces theirs in the year 2072. Since they take place in the future they needed a Wireless system. They also found a better way to use both Cyberware and Bioware together.Third: They revamped the system. It loses some of its originality (dice pools), but those did tend to confuse people. Now it has a system more like White Wolfs (w/D6's). You take a Base Attribute and a Skill and roll them together. All Target numbers are now 5 and you take dice away from your total before the roll to do more difficult activities.Fourth: Since the Matrix is now Wireless, your Hacker can actually go on runs and be part of the action. They also mixed him in with the Rigger. So now the Rigger can go in the building and not get stuck sitting in the Van.Fifth: Damage no longer has the coding system (9M for an Ares Predator), now it simply does 6 damage. Also if the Armor Value is above the Damage of the Weapon then it becomes Stun instead of Physical (done to simulate the armor catching the bullet). The Defender now rolls his Body (attribute) + Armor Value as a soak role following the rules above.Sixth: Character Creation no longer uses a Priority System. It now has a point based system. You start with 400 points and then spend those on Race, Attributes, Skills, Magic (if you have it), Money and Contacts. Each Category has it's own prices so that you have to choose what means the most to your character (Races cost from 0-40, Attributes cost 8, Skills cost 4, Magic costs 1 for each point of focus, Money costs 1 for 5,000 New-Yen, Contacts cost 1 for loyalty and 1 for value).Overall: The changes seem to make things easier and more streamlined. I approve of their changes and hope others give them another chance.

First off, I don't know why it's so expensive on Amazon. When I came across it it was listed as just under 30 and out of stock. I decided for the price I would put in my order and wait. Since then Amazon is no longer listing it, but several third party sellers are asking ridiculous prices for this. I was able to purchase it through Barnes and Nobles for a decent price but I'm keeping my order open here in case it comes in again, a second book never hurts.I've read many of the other reviews and they are all great and well thought out, I don't have a lot additional to add that wasn't already said. I actually found I didn't like the way the Shadowrun history was laid out in the book. I found it less fluid and harder to follow as compared to the third edition books. But that's about the only less than stellar thing I can say. The book is gorgeous, full color with wonderful artwork. The layout is wonderful, the little stories at the beginning of each chapter are a delight to read, and it's just all around nice. If you can find it, buy it.

You can't go wrong with a Mapplethorpe on your shelf, this is my 3rd book on him and his collections are just so interesting to me. I tried to emulate him in undergrad with a few projects my professor handed to me. In hindsight, I think my professor got me into his work because she saw me struggle with my sexual identity AND she wanted me to get laid, finally.

This is a gorgeous beautiful sexy book. Gorgeous! Highly recommend. Sigh... It's just beautiful.

The four years of research the author undertook in order to create this large collection, in context and with biography, is evident.There are some color images on the first few pages, and then about 40 pages of text with additional images to build the story of Mapplethorpe and this early work of his. It's a mix of bio, critiques, interpretations, and questions about what might have been the motivation or inspiration for a particular style or photograph being discussed.Context is important. When he began creating these images, the world was a different place than it is now. Yes, many challenges remain, but back in the 70's, many of the subjects on which Mapplethorpe focuses were not out in the "mainstream", as it were. In other words, his life and decision, his desire, to share with us are significant.It makes me wonder more than a little what his experience would have been in a later era.I'm kind of rediscovering my love of his photographs, the obvious experimentation, and his own discoveries and curiosity about what he sees. It's been quite some time since I've interacted with his work, especially these early images. I'm in love all over again.There are over 150 B&W polaroids printed in this book. They're presented on heavy stock paper, and there's even a slight raise to the images thanks to the brilliant ink usage in guaranteeing each image is exactly like its original. The majority of these were only ever seen by a few before being published here and, for me, they deepen my appreciation of Mapplethorpe's work, and all of the feelings it invokes.Rediscovery, broadened perspective, and plain ol'enjoyment are all buoyed by the not insignificant dash of nostalgia each time glimpses of the 70's reveal themselves.

Knowing tat new books were coming out so I reread the series so I could remember the earlier characters. This book I think was my favorite though I love all of them e meet Wheland again after his relationship with Cooper who found a life partner with Jayson. Cooper and Wheland would participate in threesomes Cooper and Wheland would fool around together. Cooper realized he was gay and posed that possibility to Wheland. Wheland had tragic family life so on the date felt he felt his world fell apart family wise. On thaw to the bar he go tin a traffic accident with an old friend Sonny Rooserelli a musician with another rock band he and rooster went to dinner to get reaquainted Rooster left LA beaches got divorced and hated touring. Wheland invited him to stay at his estate. Rooster agrees and is shown the guest room Wheland is instantly attracted to Rooster. They write and record some music together When they finally become honest about their attraction was wow off the charts Wheland finds out that they are going on a world tour Wheland knowing Rooster aka Sonny hates touring which means he won't want to go on tour with Wheland AKA Mick their relationship is so new he doesn't want distance to ruin anything Sonny is recording with his band he can't go on tour but he promises to try to meet up at some point Nervous to let his band know about Sonny they all are happy for Mick and supportiveThey even hink about a surrogate for a baby both want a forever family together I loved Wheland in the earlier book Iadore him and Sonny together
